School Tours & Programs
The Reginald F. Lewis Museum provides school tours and programs that bring the African American experience to life through interactive exhibits, artifacts and activities designed for young learners. School tours align with Maryland State Standards for social studies, language arts and fine arts, and complement curriculum lessons from An African American Journey: A Resource for Learning the History of African Americans in Maryland and the United States created in collaboration with the Maryland State Department of Education.
Guided docent tours are available to school groups of 10– 60 students. Self guided tours accommodates school group up to 250 and come with a museum overview and gallery activity. The museum also schedules joint tours with some of the area museums in downtown Baltimore if your school wishes to visit several museums during a field trip outing.

The Journey in History Theater school program include performances for all ages to complement theme tours as well as off site visits to your schools with living history presentations.
Through the Freedom Hour program, preschoolers can visit the museum and experience its collection with a story and art project.
JOURNEY IN HISTORY THEATER
Journey in History Theater offers living history and theatrical performances that highlight prominent African Americans in the museum’s galleries. Presentations occur once a month at 10:30 a.m. A minimum of 50 students is required to schedule this program. Admission fee is $5 per person.
To secure a reservation for Journey in History Theater a 25% deposit is required. Full payment is due two weeks in advance of the scheduled performance. A written cancellation must be received 4 weeks before the performance to receive a refundable deposit.
FREEDOM HOUR: PRE-SCHOOL
Pre school groups, ages 3-5, are welcome to participate in Freedom Hour, where younger children hear a story, see museum artifacts and create an art project. Space is limited to 40 children. Admission fee is $3 per child.
OUTREACH: LIVING HISTORY TO GO
Schools can schedule living history programs at their sites through the Living History to Go program which brings to life stories and events that are part of African American history. Costumed history performers will engage students with props, artifacts and interactive activities in a 45 minute performance. This program is suitable for grades K-8. The program cost is $325 for one presentation and $275 for a second performance scheduled for the same day.
